I Know You Are, But What Am I?

It's that magical time of year again... No, not Christmas! It's time for Sibling Revelry to produce another world premier from the hilarious local playwright Everett Newton. Last year we had the pleasure of putting out Taxidermania. This year we will introduce you to  I Know You Are, But What Am I?  No matter how well written a play is, however, it still requires talented actors on stage to make it great. With that in mind we are putting out an open casting call for actors in the DFW area to come be a part of the production. Auditions will be held 8/1/2012 from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Genesis Theatre.

Genesis Theatre
3100 Independence Pkwy, suite 324B

Here is a list of the characters we will be auditioning for. Treat the age as a guideline, not an absolute.

Cast of Characters
DOCTOR DANE BREWER, mid 30s, psychiatrist
MINNIE RUTH WESTMINSTER, 80s, well-spoken and educated
BLYTHE MATTINGLY, late 20s, attractive, uptight
JASMINE STANTON, late 20s, hippie
CARL REYNOLDS, late 30s, kleptomaniac
REX ABBOTT, 40ish, investigator with the state medical board

I Know You Are, But What Am I?

Psychiatrist, Dane Brewer, finds his task daunting each time he confronts his patients in group therapy. Minnie Ruth Westminster is an aging widow with an overactive libido; the delusional Jasmine Stanton imagines herself an alien visitor from a distant planet; and Carl Reynolds, both an arsonist and a kleptomaniac, cannot resist the temptation to torch everything he steals.

Doctor Brewer's task becomes even more complicated when Rex Abbott, an investigator from the State Medical Board, informs him that a complaint has been lodged against him by one of his patients. But which one? The possible consequences are dire since Doctor Brewer's license to practice medicine could be revoked; and even if the complaint is found baseless, all financial support for the clinic by the Mattingly Foundation could be withdrawn.

Complication is heaped upon complication as the psychiatric hangups and missteps of the entire cast threaten to bring the clinic, the doctor and his patients to ruin. But in a surprising twist, the identity of the complaining culprit is disclosed, and the doctor, his patients and his practice find a satisfactory resolution—of sorts.
This comedy of the absurd invites the audience—all of us—to join Doctor Brewer and his patients in group therapy. As the final curtain closes, many of us may be left with a new definition of insanity, and an unsettling question for the person we love most: I Know You Are, But What Am I?

Rehearsals are scheduled for each Saturday from 2-6 pm and each Monday from 7-9 pm. Please plan accordingly.

The show runs from 9/28-10/7 in the Studio next to WaterTower.

As a reminder, we love doing new works so if you are an author please submit your work. Also, if you are interested in directing a future show let us know!

  1. Hey guys,
I sent out a bunch of emails and copies of the audition press release to anyone I could find an email for in the dfw arts community. Pegasus news and the KERA arts site are reviewing the posting, hopefully we will see it posted in the next 48 hours. There is also a post on Backpage.com in the dallas show biz section and a submission made to the Dallas Observer.
With any luck, this will improve our chances of a nice big turnout for the auditions.
